Southern Virginia University, the 2011 USCAA D1 Men’s Basketball National Champions, used hot shooting to roll past U-Maine Fort Kent 98-53 in first round play at the VUL Dragons Invitational hosted by Virginia University Lynchburg from Lynchburg, Virginia Friday evening. UMFK remains winless at 0-10 and will play host VUL Sunday at 12pm.
SVU, who is tied for six in this weeks’ USCAA D1 Coaches Poll, shot a blistering 60% in the first half including a 7-12 effort from three to build an insurmountable 59-21 lead at the break. The Knights forced 24 UMFK turnovers and held a 49-32 advantage on the boards.
UMFK freshmen guard Curtis Bouchard (Fort Kent, Maine) scored a career-high 16 points on 6-11 shooting including a 4 of 8 effort from behind the arc.
