The U-Maine-Fort Kent men’s basketball team fell to Virginia-University-Lynchburg 86-63 at the VUL Dragons Invitational Sunday in Lynchburg, Virginia. UMFK (0-11) goes on semester break and will return to action January 6 at the College of Saint Joseph in Rutland, Vermont.
On Sunday UMFK battled back from a 20 point first half deficit and a 15 point half time disadvantage to get within eight midway through the second but couldn’t shake poor foul shooting (52% /12-23) and 24 turnovers. VUL capitalized off UMFK mistakes while shooting a solid 47% (36-77) from the floor to improve to 7-9 on the year.
Dennis Gravely led four Dragons in double figures with a game-high 21 points for VUL while UMFK sophomore forward Jeremy Bishop (Montreal, Quebec) scored career-high 18 points. Senior co-captain Yoshives Belizaire (Miramar, Florida) recorded a double-double for UMFK with 19 points and 11 boards.
