Fort Kent, ME—The University of Maine Fort Kent men’s soccer team completed another perfect home soccer season on Friday afternoon, with a 9-0 win in the Annual Potato Barrel game over UMaine Presque Isle. Seniors Kennard Brown, Willie Monthe, and Franzceau Germain finished their home careers undefeated on Alumni Memorial Field. Brown and Monthe, both four year players will leave UMFK, with 22 wins against 0 defeats.

Ross Downie started the onslaught on senior night, with a goal just a minute and a half into the game. Stuart Conway threaded a through ball in to Downie streaking down the left sideline, Downie controlled the ball and rocketed a shot in the right side panel of the net past the UMPI keeper. Conway then added another assist, as he took his third consecutive corner kick, as Willie Monthe headed the ball home. Monthe now has 19 goals on the season and currently sits 5th on the USCAA goal scoring leaderboard.

Stefan Petricevic, USCAA’s second leading scorer, Ben Kluvers, Milton Christopher, and Brown all added first half goals. Brown, a two-time USCAA All America First team selection scored his 18th goal in 19 games this season. The Bengals are the top scoring team in the USCAA this season with 110 goals. They currently have 3 of the top 8 goal scorers.

UMFK keepers Jamie Cleland and Akheim Forbes split halves in goal. They were forced to make no saves in the contest. UMPI goalie Matt Manter was peppered in the first half allowing 8 goals while making 7 saves on 21 shots.

UMFK will close the regular season on Sunday at UMaine Machias. The Bengals will then await their fate in the USCAA National Championship selection show on Monday at 5:30pm.
