Andre “Shorty” Anderson

Andre “Shorty” Anderson was UMFK’s primary offensive weapon on the standout teams of the mid-2000 decade, scoring 93 goals and assisting on 54 others in 83 games.

Shorty was named to the Sunrise Conference’s first team each of his four years (2007-10); was named the conference’s Offensive Player of the Year all four years; and was named its Player of the Year each year, as well.

Through his soccer career at UMFK, the Bengals went to the NAIA National Championship Tournament. The 2008 squad made it to the Elite 8 round of competition. Shorty captained the Bengals during his senior season, 2010.

Anderson, who hails from Manchester, Jamaica, was named a National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) All-American during his sophomore, junior and senior years. In 2009 and 2010, he attained the much-coveted designation as an NAIA Academic All-American.

Shorty was named the USCAA’s National Player of the Year for 2010.

Andre received a Bachelor of Science in Behavior Science at commencement in May 2011. He was named to the dean’s list for seven of his eight academic semesters, and he received the Terry Drown Award for the athlete attaining the highest grade point average.

A strict adherent to the Bengal’s Champions of Character philosophy, Shorty contributed off the field, as well. He served as a mentor for a second-grade math program at Fort Kent Elementary School, and as a volunteer at the Can-Am International Sled Dog Races for three years.

Following his graduation from UMFK, Andre was hired by the University as an admissions counselor.
