Guidelines and Criteria for Nomination

Who may nominate a candidate for consideration?

  • Any alumni or friend of UMFK athletics may make a nomination.
  • The nominator must provide supporting information about the nominee.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Athletes must have graduated from UMFK.
  • Athletes must have contributed to the image of UMFK athletics.
  • Athletes/teams become eligible 5 years after graduation/the season.
  • Nominees must receive at least 70 percent of the vote for induction.
  • If not selected, a nominee will remain eligible for three years.

Selection Committee

The Committee will review and vote on nominees for induction in accordance with the eligibility requirements and criteria. The Committee will consist of:

  • Director of Athletics or designee
  • Director Alumni Affairs, or designee
  • Four UMFK Alumni (appointed by the UMFK Alumni Association)
  • UMFK Sports Information Director
  • All UMFK Athletics Head Coaches
  • Student/Athlete (Appointed by coaches)
  • Faculty Athletics Representative
  • Faculty Member

Selection Process

The criteria for selection of a Student-Athlete Nominee:

  • Each student-athlete nominee must have played for at least one year and finished his/her athletic career at UMFK.
  • Each student-athlete nominee must have demonstrated good citizenship both in school and after leaving UMFK.

The criteria for selection of a Team Nominee:

  • Team nominees must have won a conference, regional, or national championship or demonstrated outstanding performance. Other accomplishments will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
  • Team nominees must have demonstrated good sportsmanship.

The criteria for selection of a Coach / Athletic Administrator:

  • Coach or athletic administrator nominees must have served UMFK for at least four years.
  • Nominees must have served as coaches, administrators, managers, trainers, or student-trainers or otherwise contributed to the athletic program. Coaches/administrators need not be UMFK alumni.

The criteria for selection of a Builder / Administrator:

  • Individuals nominated must be graduates of UMFK, faculty or staff members, or friends of UMFK Athletics.
  • Nominees made outstanding contributions to UMFK athletics.
