Paula (Martin) Zwemke

Paula Martin played basketball at UMFK from 1986-89, serving as team captain during her final two years. She was the team’s Most Valuable Player in 1988 and was the recipient of the Coach’s Award in 1989.

During her final two seasons, Paula was third and fourth in Maine in three-point shooting percentage. In one tournament game against Husson College, she made 10 of 15 three-point attempts.
Paula was named to the Thomas College all-tournament team in 1987 and 1988; and to the University of Maine at Presque Isle All-Tourney team in 1988 and 1989.
Martin was named the Maine Sports Hall of Fame female Scholar-Athlete of the Year in 1989.
The Frenchville, Maine native and Wisdom High School graduate received a Bachelor of Science in Education, maintaining a 3.6 grade point average. She was the winner of the Grindle Award, the Floyd “Red’ Powell Award, and the Alumni Award. She later earned a Master of Science in Counselor Education from the University of Maine and the University of Phoenix.
Paula has been employed for the past 15 years by the Douglas County (Colorado) School District as program administrator of the Before and After School Enterprise programs, which serve more than 7,000 children.
Paula worked as a certified basketball official for high school basketball games while pursuing graduate studies at the University of Maine. From 1996-2003 she played in a competitive women’s indoor soccer league in Denver, Colorado. She also has worked as a ski instructor and as a ski coach.
She began playing golf in 2003, and currently plays to an 8 handicap, thanks mostly to her husband, Zane, a PGA professional. Paula is undefeated in “HORSE” on her home basketball court.
