Darryl Peary

Darryl Peary played for Coach Lowell “Ozzie” Osgood (HOF ’08) as a four-year starter in basketball and soccer. He was the first Bengal team goalkeeper in the soccer program’s history. A 1967 graduate of the (then) Fort Kent State Teachers College (FKSTC), he was a 1,000 point scorer in basketball; was named most valuable player; was Male Athlete of the Year in 1965; and won two Northeast College Soccer Championships. Darryl graduated from the FKSTC earning a Bachelor of Science in elementary education and went on to earn a bachelor of science degree in physical education and recreation from Aroostook State Teachers College in Presque Isle, Maine.

After graduation, Darryl taught at Forest Hills High School in Jackman, Maine; Bangor Christian High School in Bangor, Maine; and Calvary Christian School in Derry, New Hampshire. Peary also had a distinguished career as a longtime high school athletic director and coach for soccer, baseball, basketball, and track. When Darryl was at Calvary, he was honored by the naming of “Peary Field” for his 22 years of coaching. Darryl retired from teaching in 2009 after 43 years.

After retirement, Daryl and his wife, Melvina settled in Corinth, Maine and Zephyrhills, Florida. When Darryl is in Maine, he coaches at Bangor Christian and enjoys the fellowship at their church. In Florida, he continues to watch the Maine high school basketball tournaments online. He enjoys walking, biking, attending spring training games, and strolling the flea markets.
