Katherine Ferland

Katherine Ferland will go down as one of the all-time great female soccer players in UMFK history.

Among the many stars that shined for UMFK in the glorious Lucas Levesque era of the Women’s soccer program, perhaps no star shined brighter than Ferland. The supremely skilled striker, known just as “Kat” on the field, scored 120 goals in 71 career games over the course of four seasons and finished each season by hoisting a National Championship trophy. She ranks second all-time in goals, only slightly behind fellow Hall of Famer Whitney Sinclair. The three-time First Team All-American and three-time National Player of the Year led the entire nation in goals scored in 2013 and 2015.

For more than four years, she guided UMFK to 75 wins, only five losses and one draw. Ferland was known for her business-like approach on the pitch, her demeanor never changed whether the team was winning or losing, and they did very little losing. She led by example, and the team followed her lead to win after win over the years.

The scoring machine graduated in 2016 after being named a four-time USCAA Academic All-American and finished at UMFK with a 3.886 GPA. She has since returned to her home in Quebec, where she currently enjoys teaching yoga, and has entered a career in manual therapy, where she helps people discover a healthier human body.
