Kayla Richards Brown

Kayla Richards Brown attended high school in Presque Isle. While at UMFK, Kayla was a dual-sport athlete in soccer and basketball. She was a four-year starter for the Bengals in both sports. On the soccer pitch, Kayla was a three-time USCAA National Champion (2013, 2014 & 2015) and finished her career with 22 goals, 24 assists, and 68 points in 72 career games. On the basketball court, Kayla was a pass-first guard who raised the level of play of those around her. She finished her career with 413 points, 354 rebounds, 284 assists, and 122 steals in 88 career games.

As a student-athlete, Kayla was named Academic All-American in 2015 and 2016. As a basketball player, she had three National Tournament appearances, including the team’s first National Final Four appearance, and she was honored with the Basketball Coach’s Award. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English at UMFK in 2016 and received the Teacher Education Award and the Roland A. Burns Award at graduation.

Kayla teaches English at Caribou High School and has coached multiple sports since graduation. She will enter her eighth season as the Varsity Girls Basketball coach. In 2018, she was the recipient of the Maine McDonald’s Class B Basketball Coach of the Year. In 2020, she earned a Master of Education in Educational Leadership from  St. Joseph’s College of Maine. Kayla also works as an Associate Broker for Progressive Realty.

Kayla Richards Brown is married to Kennard Brown, and the couple resides in Caribou.
