Davis Cyr
Davis Cyr has served as the head coach of the University of Maine at Fort Kent men’s and women’s track and field programs since January 2024. Cyr's role expanded this fall as he was named the head women's volleyball coach for the 2026-27 season.
"I took on the challenge of becoming the Head Coach of Volleyball this season. I am looking to working with a new team and facing a new challenge together."
A graduate of UMFK with a bachelor’s degree in Business Management, Cyr brings extensive coaching, recruiting and athletics management experience to the Bengals. His professional background includes roles in track and field, volleyball, recruitment coordination and sports center management at UMFK and Hawaii Pacific University.
Cyr’s connection to UMFK Track and Field began as an assistant coach from 2018 to 2022, specializing in the jumps and throwing events. Before joining the collegiate ranks, he served as the head track and field coach at Fort Kent Community High School from 2011 to 2022. Throughout his career, Cyr has developed expertise in field-event technique, athlete development and the emotional side of coaching. His resilience, creativity and resourcefulness allow him to help athletes succeed while making the most of the resources available to them.
Since becoming UMFK’s head coach, Cyr has guided the Bengals to 40 medals at the USCAA National Championships, including 16 gold medals, while coaching 44 USCAA All-Americans. Under his leadership, the UMFK women’s track and field team earned third-place national finishes in 2024 and 2026. During the 2025–26 season alone, the Bengals captured 15 national medals, produced 21 All-Americans, broke 19 program records and established 103 personal bests. Cyr’s accomplishments earned him recognition as the 2026 USCAA National Coach of the Year.
A development-first coach, Cyr believes athletes and coaches must work together to pursue growth, confront adversity and learn from one another. His approach begins with getting to know each athlete, building mutual respect and coaching the individual rather than relying on a one-size-fits-all philosophy. He looks for student-athletes who are committed, disciplined, willing to train hard and creatively, and dedicated to contributing positively to the team culture.
Effort, commitment, discipline and culture form the foundation of Cyr’s program. He teaches his athletes that although they cannot always control results, they can control their preparation, effort and response to adversity. He also believes coaches must remain curious and committed to learning, recognizing that continued growth is essential to sustained success.
Cyr credits his younger brother, Devon, as his greatest source of motivation. Born with an intellectual disability, Devon lives by the motto, “Speak Up, Stand Tall, Your Voice Matters.” His example has helped shape Cyr’s commitment to perseverance, personal growth and ensuring every individual feels valued and heard. Cyr is also a certified lifeguard.
