Dynamic Duo Commits to Fort Kent
A stellar pair of guards have verbally committed to UMFK for next season. Trinity Washington and Tajaheray McMahan lead their Merced College team all the way to the State Championship Game for the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) and will now look to replicate that success in Fort Kent.
Washington, a Fresno, California native, did it all for her team this season, averaging 13 points, 8 rebounds, 6.6 assists, and 5.7 steals per game. She was named CCCAA Player of the Month for the month of March and was named Central Valley Conference MVP as she guided her team to a co-conference championship. She also holds the Merced College all-time records for assists and steals. “Trinity is a floor general, a leader, and a tremendous all-around player. Her toughness and experience will give her the ability to be a game-changer for our program moving forward.” Coach Brown said about Washington.
The second half of the dynamic duo is Tajaheray McMahan. McMahan was a force for the Merced College Lady Blue Devils this season, earning a First Team All-Conference Selection for the Central Valley Conference. McMahan’s 13 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 2.7 assists to go along with 2 steals per game were instrumental in Coach Allen Huddleston’s teams run to a conference championship and eventually to the state title game. Coach Brown said, “Multiple coaches in California told me she was the fastest guard in the state. I think she can add a never-before-seen element to the program due to her speed, skill, and her passion for the game.”
Coach Brown also added, “I knew they both could play, but after seeing them in person in the State Semi-Final, I was sold. They both will add a toughness and an enthusiasm for the game that I see taking our program to the next level and being able to compete nationally.”
