End of Year Banquet Went Virtual

Fort Kent, ME -

Typically one of the most exciting events of the year for UMFK student-athletes is the End of Year Banquet in which all student-athletes and coaches come together, share a meal, and reflect upon a job well done. The students especially like dressing down to the nines, and the coaches can finally take a deep breath after being so busy all year. The coaches share their stories of their respective seasons and hand out awards for their deserving team members. Lastly, the Seniors are recognized for their outstanding contributions to their teams and their incredible accomplishment of graduating.

This year was a bit different due to the circumstances COVID-19 has dealt UMFK, as the awards banquet continued in a virtual manner. The speeches from each coach were recorded, and a link was sent to the student-athletes. This year was also a bit different as the awards banquet also included awards for students from other departments, including Career Services, Student Life and Engagement, and Residential Life.

The two major award winners of the night were Glenroy Osbourne and Rachel Nance, who took home the Male and Female Student-Athlete of the Year, respectively. Osbourne was the starting goalkeeper on the national finalist men’s soccer team while also serving as a Resident Assistant on campus, serving on the Student Senate, and maintaining a 3.8 GPA. Nance was a captain of the national finalist volleyball team, a 2nd Team USCAA All-American, all while juggling the rigorous nursing classes at UMFK and working at a local nursing home. Both of these students are great representatives of the type of quality student, athlete, and people the UMFK athletic teams strive to recruit and cultivate.
