UMFK Athletics Weekend Recap. Two Bengals earn Player of the Week!
In a stretch of three games in three days over the weekend, the UMFK Basketball teams were stellar. Despite losing to NCAA Division 1 opponent U-Mass Lowell on the road Friday night, the Men’s Basketball team responded with wins over College of St. Joseph Vermont and Vermont Tech on Saturday and Sunday.
Against the Fighting Saints on Saturday, the Men’s team lit up the scoreboard, winning 126-84. On Sunday, the Bengals found themselves in a slugfest but were able to deliver the knockout blow mid-way through the second half to earn a 97-80 victory. The Bengals’ record now moves to 5-9.
For his play this weekend, Chance Cole was named USCAA Men’s Basketball Player of the Week! His 84 points and 27 rebounds in three games lead the way for UMFK.
On the Women’s side of things, the Lady Bengals earned three consecutive victories in as many days to make it a total of seven victories in a row.
Despite being down as many as 12 to start the game on Friday evening, the Bengals fought back to beat SUNY Canton 64-53. On Saturday, the Bengals took care of business, defeating the College of St. Joseph, 75-34. On the final day of the road trip, the Bengals found themselves on the road in a hostile Vermont Tech atmosphere and despite a stellar 3-point shooting performance from the home team, UMFK outlasted them 70-53. Lady Bengal Basketball now has a record of 8-1.
Trinity Washington, the junior guard from California, played in all four victories last week and recorded two quadruple-doubles, a triple-double, and a double-double. Her first quadruple-double was against University of Maine-Machias, where she had 15 points, 12 rebounds, 11 assists, and 10 steals. The second quadruple-double performance saw her rack up 18 points, 11 rebounds, 10 assists, and 10 steals against the College of St. Joseph’s Vermont. She was named USCAA Women’s Basketball Player of the Week.
